A Realistic Hurricane Simulation Made in Houdini

The creator also utilized SideFX's Solaris to improve render speed.

Have a look at this highly-realistic and physically-accurate hurricane simulation created by FXTD Student JJ Sun using Houdini. Made as an RBD project for Lost Boys, a Canadian VFX school, this destruction-ready simulation is based on real-life footage filmed during the 2018 Hurricane Michael. According to the project's description, the creator utilized "multi-stage RBD, Vellum and Pyro simulations to achieve cohesive wind-storm effects on all elements, and USD pipeline in Solaris to improve render speed."
