Both the CPUs and the required AM5 motherboards will arrive this fall.
At Computex 2022, AMD revealed the details of the upcoming Ryzen 7000 CPUs. As the company shared in January, the 5nm processors will have Zen 4 architecture, while the AM5 motherboard required for it will support DDR5 and PCIe 5.0.
AMD CEO Lisa Su shared that Ryzen 7000 will run "significantly above 5GHz" and have more than 15% better single-threaded performance than the previous generation. Indeed, the processor showed a 5.5GHz clock speed during a gaming demo.
The company also boosted the maximum power delivery of the AM5 socket to 170W, which is higher than AM4's 142W.
The new processors come with instructions for AI acceleration, although Su didn't specify the details.
The chip has two 5nm core chiplets, each with eight Zen 4 cores built on an optimized version of TSMC's high-performance 5nm process technology, and a new 6nm I/O die that has integrated RDNA 2 graphics, DDR5, and PCIe 5.0 controllers.
AM5 supports 24 lanes of PCIe 5.0 bandwidth connected directly to the socket, up to 14 SuperSpeed USB with 20Gbps and Type-C, and up to 4 display outputs supporting HDMI 2.1 and DisplayPort 2.
