Apple Announced New MacBook Pro, Mac Mini with M2 Pro & M2 Max

The devices feature a more powerful CPU and GPU, up to 96GB of memory, and high power efficiency.

Apple has unveiled M2 Pro and M2 Max, two next-generation SoCs (systems on a chip), together with the new MacBook Pro and Mac mini.

M2 Pro & M2 Max

M2 Pro boasts up to 12 CPU cores and a 19-core GPU, along with 32GB of unified memory and 200GB/s of memory bandwidth. M2 Pro promises to be 20% faster than the 10-core CPU in M1 Pro.

M2 Max, on the other hand, has a 38-core GPU, 400GB/s of unified memory bandwidth, and up to 96GB of memory. Apple says graphics speeds climb up to 30% faster than M1 Max.

Both chips feature advanced custom technologies, including a faster 16-core Neural Engine, and Apple's powerful media engine. M2 Pro will be used in Mac mini for the first time, while M2 Pro and M2 Max will come to 14-inch and 16-inch MacBook Pro, also announced that day.

MacBook Pro

The laptops featuring M2 Pro and M2 Max should bring better performance and battery life to users. They efficiently handle demanding tasks such as effects rendering, which is up to six times quicker than the fastest Intel-based MacBook Pro, and color grading, which is two times faster, according to Apple.

MacBook Pro's battery can now hold on for up to 22 hours, it's the longest battery life ever in a Mac, as the company claims. It features Wi-Fi 6E and advanced HDMI, which supports 8K displays up to 60Hz and 4K displays up to 240Hz.

Additionally, it has a Liquid Retina XDR display, 1080p FaceTime HD camera, a six-speaker sound system, and "studio-quality" microphones. It also includes three Thunderbolt 4 ports for high-speed connection to peripherals, an SDXC card slot, and MagSafe 3 charging.

You can order the new MacBook Pro today, with availability beginning on January 24. The new 14-inch laptop with M2 Pro starts at $1,999, and the 16-inch MacBook Pro with M2 Pro starts at $2,499.

Mac mini

The new compact desktop features an 8-core CPU as well as a 10-core GPU at a starting price of $599. With up to 24GB of unified memory and 100GB/s of bandwidth, tasks such as image editing in Photoshop are up to 50% faster than the previous generation. Moreover, Apple claims that the Mac mini with M2 is up to 5 times faster than the best-selling Windows desktop, while the M2 Pro model's gaming performance is up to 15 times better than the fastest Intel-based Mac mini.

The M2 model features two Thunderbolt 4 ports and support for up to two displays, and the M2 Pro model includes four Thunderbolt 4 ports and support for up to three displays. Both models feature two USB-A ports, an HDMI port, a Gigabit Ethernet port with a 10GB option, and an upgraded headphone jack. They also offer Wi-Fi 6E as well as Bluetooth 5.3.

Mac mini with M2 starts at $599, while the one with M2 Pro starts at $1,299. You can order them today, with availability beginning on January 24.
