Behind-The-Scenes: Mocap & Monster Fight In The Witcher 4 Cinematic Trailer

Platige Image shared some details about how the duel between Ciri and Bauk was staged.

The Witcher 4 is arguably CD Projekt Red's most highly anticipated title, which has been in development for some time. However, with the recent confirmation that it won't be released until at least 2027, let's take a look at what we still have for now: the making of the cinematic trailer that revealed the follow-up to one of the most acclaimed RPGs of all time.

To capture the epic fight scene, Platige Image built a massive 7-meter rig suspended from the ceiling, operated by 3 people to control the creature's attacking arms, while Maciej Kwiatkowski performed the body movements of the Bauk. Remarkably, the choreography was captured in a single take, allowing the team to preview the entire fight sequence live on set, with no tricks, just raw movement. The Witcher-style combat was refined over 5-6 takes, with one standout move, the chained jump, being improvised just 10 minutes before the final take and nailed perfectly.

Earlier, Platige released another behind-the-scenes video of the cinematic trailer, featuring various team members discussing their work and the portrayal of Ciri:
