Bforartists 1.0 Available

A brand-new tool that makes Blender more user-friendly providing an improved and updated UX.

Have you heard about Bforartists? It is a brand-new tool that makes Blender more user-friendly providing an improved and updated UX. Let’s check out some of its possibilities.

  • Rearranged User Interface. Some things are better accessible now, some are not so much in the way anymore.
  • Over 700 new native icons.
  • The possibility to have pure icon Buttons in more than one area, to reduce the scrolling and speed up work. In the tool shelf for example.
  • A user configurable Toolbar with icon buttons.
  • Improved Layouts.
  • A brand new Keymap with Left Click select, which is reduced to just the necessary hotkeys.
  • Cleaned up User Interface. More than 600 not necessary double menu entries removed.
  • Extended User Interface. Close to 100 formerly hotkey only tools have a menu entry now.
  • Improved Tooltips.
  • Better readable standard theme.
  • Some new add-ons to improve usability, like the reset 3D View addon or the Important Hotkey addon.
    Extended material library.
  • Documentation is PDF based and fully text searchable

You can learn more and download the toolkit on the Bforartists’ website. Also, check out tutorials on YouTube.

This really baffles me to be honest. I am an avid gamer and moving from 3ds max's abominable interface to blender was like a God's blessing. Using hotkeys for everything is my second nature and digging through menus is not just dumb and uncomfortable to me - it's a huge waste of time. This mostly stems from the fact that I hate making precise clicks with the mouse - I am pretty terrible at it. I would quite often misclick on the gizmo or in a menu and that would frustrate the fuck out of me. I even wrote a plugin for Unity that introduces the hotkey-based gizmo into that engine as I could not tolerate working with the stone-age default gizmo after I tried blender's.

Well, at the same time, I guess it is evident that there are people who really prefer clicking. I guess that is one explanation why blender is not as popular as it truly deserves to be.

This post is obviously an expression of my opinion, but I would wholeheartedly recommend people to instead try and learn hotkeys. It's worth the effort for the payout is like 10 times faster working speed.
