Have a look at a free Blender and 3DS Max Connector pack that features two small scripts for these popular apps. The author states the workflow here is simple — just send and get models (FBX format).

Please note that Personal, Indie and Studio Licenses are available. Personal licenses do not apply to companies. When it comes to Indie and Studios licenses, scripts cannot be redistributed or resold unless as embedded components of electronic/interactive media.

To install the scripts, you should extract “_BMAX_xxx” archive.

3DS Max:

– Drag and drop MZP file into the 3DS Max viewport, and you will find a Blender icon at the main toolbar

Blender:

– User preferences > Add-ons > Install from file…> select ZIP file.

Instructions:

3DSMax:

Changing BMAX working folder — double-click right button on the dialog background.

I just tried it. It works for the most part. All though the material conversion (which is why I tried it) isn't good. It can only export standard scanline materials and the way it converts those materials to principle shaders is never good. It does get you the textures (so that's a plus) but everything else has to be redone. certainly refractive materials like glass are particularly terrible, it also sets the metallic value constantly on 1 in the principle shader.
maybe I'm doing something wrong here?

Ricky Gervais "On Twitter, people sometimes say, “Why don’t you keep your opinions to yourself?” I go, “You’re following me. I didn’t tweet at you.” That’s like going to a notice board in the middle of town, seeing a sign for guitar lessons, and yelling, “I DON’T WANT guitar lessons!” Well, it wasn’t for you."

Don't get confused, you are the person that shouts "I don't want guitar lessons"

Ahaha in my company I've used Blender as it's better than Maya in certain fields and coincidentally we've needed a way to convert max files as no one has a license and you can't covert it otherwise, so I don't know what you're talking about

Stop shouting at blender. U can create an easy and artistic elevation in blender, compared to 3ds max. Give it a try before complaining.

Why! You either use Max or you use Blender. You don't use both! Everyone knows Blender is not a product any big corporation would use. So why bother with this script? Blender is ugly and works as bad! Blender will never be a serious program due to the fact it looks horrible, uses the keyboard to work instead of an easy interface and it just screams annoyance!

People only use Blender as it is free. Free means not taken seriously! So please stop trying to make Blender sound like a real piece if software! It's like the Nero Video Editor of the 3D World. A joke basically.
