Breakdown: Setting Up River Rock Materials in The Last of Us Part I

Principal Environment Artist at Naughty Dog Jared Sobotta, who recently shared a detailed overview of the Brick and Concrete generator he created for The Last of Us Part I, has presented a new comprehensive breakdown, offering one more behind-the-scenes look at the development of the TLoU remake.

In this breakdown, the artist showcased the River Rock materials created for the game and explained how they were made using Substance 3D Designer, showed multiple Substance graphs and WiP demos, provided a thorough explanation of how the rocks were sculpted in ZBrush, and commented on the production pipeline in general. According to the author, the work he did "consisted of texturing, sculpting quite a few rocks, creating shaders, all blend work and application of the shaders, UVing, and additional modeling work".
