Join the new challenge from Univeral Pictures, create an artworkMortal Engine, and prove your excellence. Universal is now running a campaign, inviting artists, designers, and illustrators from around the world to create one-of-a-kind static artwork for Mortal Engines inspired by the latest imagery, trailers, book series, and the film’s themes.

Mortal Engines is the startling, new epic adventure from the filmmakers that brought you The Hobbit and The Lord of the Rings trilogies. The Universal and MRC adaptation is from the award-winning book series by Philip Reeve. Thousands of years after civilization was destroyed by a cataclysmic event, humankind has adapted and a new way of living has evolved. Gigantic moving cities now roam the Earth, ruthlessly preying upon smaller traction towns.

To amplify the launch of the film in December 2018, Universal Pictures is creating an art activation campaign leading up to this film’s release, and they want to collaborate with you!

Artists, designers, and illustrators from around the world are invited to create one-of-a-kind static artwork for Mortal Engines inspired by the latest imagery, trailers, book series, and the film’s themes. Artists should think about all the themes of the film from girl power, to the weapons used, to the traction cities. And remember, “Some scars never heal.”

The film’s director, Christian Rivers, and producer, Peter Jackson, will be hand selecting the Selected and Finalist Artwork. Whether it’s an illustration, a digital painting or even an alternative poster design, the judges are looking for captivating and imaginative artwork to help drive promotion and excitement socially across the film’s marketing and digital channels. Artists are encouraged to check out these photos from Mortal Engines for additional inspiration.

Artwork will potentially be featured across the film’s marketing campaign, including social accounts, print materials and merchandise. Five (5) pieces of art will be selected by Universal Pictures. The Selected Artists will receive $2,000 for each piece selected. An additional fifteen (15) pieces will be selected as Finalists and receive $200 each. Finalists may have their work used in official Mortal Engines events, activations and pop-up galleries with credit given.

They're asking for free work from artists again, via proxy of "portfolio"?
