Ex-Blizzard Devs Form a New Studio, Gas Giant Games

The studio is now working on its debut project, an action RPG based on a new IP. It will offer a sneak peek of the game during the upcoming GDC.

Former Blizzard devs Jay Wilson and Julian Love, who previously worked on such video game franchises as Warcraft and Diablo, along with another co-founder Dan Kelly, established a new game development company, Gas Giant Games.

In the newly formed studio, Jay Wilson has been assigned as the design director, Julian Love as the creative director, and Dan Kelly as the chairman of the company.

Jay Wilson was the director of 2012's Diablo III. In 2016, he resigned from Blizzard and, as he said at the time, the gaming industry as a whole. Upon his departure, he stated that he was leaving to pursue writing, which he considered to be his "original passion."

Julian Love was previously a combat designer for Diablo Immortal and the upcoming Diablo IV before leaving Blizzard in late 2021.

Dan Kelly's professional background comprises a five-year term as the senior vice president of business development at THQ and a directorial role at The Walt Disney Company.

Gas Giant Games revealed that it is now working on its debut game which will be an action RPG based on a new IP. The game will be launched for PC and home consoles, and the possibility of mobile versions will be considered later.

The studio said it is set to offer a sneak peek of its new project at the upcoming Game Developer’s Conference that will take place in California from March 20 to March 24. During the conference, Gas Giant Games will be providing private demos of their new game to potential investors and publishers who express interest in the project.
