Generating Procedural Urban Traffic System in Houdini & Unreal

Learn more about using Houdini's procedural techniques and Unreal Engine to set up customizable traffic.

At Houdini HIVE: SIGGRAPH Asia 2021, Houdini enthusiasts from Tencent Games Yuling Ji, a Technical Artist with seven years of experience in film and television, and Guo Yu, a Houdini hobbyist with 10 years of experience behind his back, have demonstrated how to use the procedural techniques Houdini offers to generate a configurable urban traffic system with high fidelity and controllability.

In this talk, the authors explain the entire process from start to finish, discussing various methods of procedural generation that they used, what relevant HDAs they had developed, and how they extended Houdini Engine for Unreal Engine to achieve the final results.
