GTA 6 Engine Will Reportedly Feature Procedural Object Generation

Players might not see the difference, but developers surely will.

Rockstar

While Rockstar is keeping mum about GTA 6, fans are desperately trying to find at least some information. And sometimes they do: according to the company's principal engine programmer, the most anticipated game in the world will feature procedural object generation.

The system is incorporated in the game's RAGE engine, so it's most likely something the developers will use and players won't really notice, but this information lines up with fans' earlier predictions.

"[I] lead performance profiling and optimization efforts, pushing the limits of real-time rendering and processing to maintain smooth performance across multiple platforms, including next-gen consoles and PC. Drive the integration of new technologies and research into the engine pipeline, such as ray tracing, ray-traced global illumination, procedural generation for objects and game environments, and various other technical systems within the engine core," the programmer's LinkedIn profile said.

If you've missed it, when GTA 6 was announced, players theorized that the game would use Take-Two's patents and introduce smarter NPCs and procedural interiors to add more realism to the experience. For example, downtown apartments would have clean and expensive decor, while rundown homes would sport cheap items. Moreover, your character will allegedly be able to gain and lose weight based on their lifestyle.

While this is still mere speculation, I find it really plausible: why not make the virtual world more realistic and developers' jobs a little easier?
