The Source VR Team announced a release window for the Half-Life 2 VR mod: it will be released in September, although the exact date is not set yet. It will be free, but you need to have a copy of the original Half-Life 2 on Steam.

The mod might not make it to Steam on time as the developers are still waiting for Valve's approval. But even if the company doesn't respond by September, the Source VR Team will publish the mod outside of Steam.

While the game is fully playable from start to finish, the modders have a lot to do after the launch. Half-Life's episodes require a separate build of the mod, which needs to be prepared and properly tested, so this will probably take a while. The creators say the majority of the episodes is VR-ready, so they might be out sooner than expected.

The team is also planning to overhaul weapons. Most of the weapons don't feature hand poses, some weapon animations and effects are missing or incomplete, and some aspects of the weapon handling could be improved, so that's what the Source VR Team will be gradually updating.

Other improvements will include sharper controls, upscaled assets and textures, and updated maps with better lighting, more details, and fewer bugs. Additionally, the team is investigating the possibility of teleport movement.
