Hangar 13 Has Had a New Round of Lay-Offs

Mafia III developer has reportedly laid off nearly 50 out of 87 employees at its main office in Novato, California along with a number of staff at its international locations.

Mafia III developer Hangar 13 has laid off multiple employees at its main office in Novato, California and its international locations. The news comes shortly after Haden Blackman stepped down from his role as Hangar 13 studio head and left the publisher 2K.

A round of job cuts was reported by Kotaku and Bloomberg which obtained the recording of a staff meeting.

"I know it sucks," said Blackman's successor Nick Baynes, head of Hangar 13's studio in Brighton. "I’m sorry I’m not over there to deliver this message. I will be coming over soon. I know you need some local leadership and structure and we’re working on it."

According to the reports, the Hangar 13 staff was laid off across all divisions of the company – in Novato, California; Brighton, UK; as well as in Prague and Brno in the Czech Republic, with just under 50 out of 87 jobs being cut the studio's headquarters in Novato. The number of employees who lost their positions at other studios is unknown.

A 2K spokesperson stated that those who have lost their job can still get another position at 2K or one of its affiliated studios.

"These decisions are always difficult. We are doing all we can to work with the impacted employees to find them new roles on other projects and teams at 2K, and are providing full support to those who cannot be redeployed, connecting them with industry networks and resources to find new opportunities outside of 2K," he said.

However, he declined to comment on how many people were affected by the round of lay-offs.
