Hitokiri: A Project Created in Substance, Unreal Engine & 3ds Max

Check out this amazing group project prepared by students of New3dge school in 3 months. 

In May 2022, New3dge shared Hitokiri, a school project made by first-year Game Art students. The team of artists responsible for this amazing project includes Mathis Boumedjmadjen, Hippolyte GelyOscar Chalaux, Jean-Jaques Dumas, Tom Joubert, and Valentin Lefèvre. Each of them was responsible for their task, and you can check out the artists' ArtStation pages to learn more about every aspect of this project. The team shared that they created this film in 3 months. Four students were in charge of the environment, and two students worked on characters. 

The team unveiled that for creating the project they worked in Substance 3D Designer, Substance 3D Painter, Unreal Engine 4, 3ds Max, and Adobe Photoshop. 

Each artist has shared their process and contribution to the project. Tom Joubert worked on the realistic vegetation with 3 different materials with a Photobash workflow in Photoshop, 3ds Max, and SpeedTree. Also, Tom was in charge of the composition and lighting of the scenes, working in UE4.

Jean-Jacques DUMAS has contributed to the project by making the main character. He was in charge of concept, modeling, and texturing.

Oscar Chalaux oversaw the modeling and texturing of the buildings on the last level. The artist mentioned that he tried to create assets as low-poly as possible while keeping a reasonable level of detail.

Valentin Lefèvre completed the technical aspects of the production, including shaders, blueprints, layout, and props creation.

Hippolyte Gely focused on the cinematic aspect, working in Unreal Engine. 

Mathis Boumedjmadjen worked on the boss character and environment props.
