This talk by SideFX Game Technical Artist, Paul Ambrosiussen, will show you how the Maps Baker replicates the functionality of the bake_texture node using VEX, all from inside COPs. “Waiting for renders massively slows down iteration times, which is one of the primary reasons the tool was built: fast, high-quality map baking.”
The artist will also answer your questions if you’re interested in tool building, COPs, the Game Dev Toolset, or other topics. It’s basically a great chance to meet the man and learn a trick or two about Houdini.
