Jetstream Sam Meme Boosts Metal Gear Rising: Revengeance Player Count

Metal Gear Rising: Revengeance's concurrent player count saw a huge spike reaching 2000 in January 2022. That's thanks to a meme.

Action hack and slash title Metal Gear Rising: Revengeance has recently seen huge popularity among gamers despite being released almost a decade ago, and it is still growing.

According to PlayTracker, the number of concurrent players of the game increased from approximately 300 to an average of 800 in 2021. And the figure increased even more in January 2022 reaching about 2000 concurrent players.

The concurrent player count has grown 1000% since April 2021, and now the achievement unlocking activity is at its highest peak since 2018.

An enormous spike was reached without any form of re-release or marketing around the game, and was apparently caused by the massive popularity of game-related memes depicting Revengeance's character Samuel Rodrigues, best known as Jetstream Sam, the most well-liked of which is "Jetstream Sam Thinking".

The cyborg is one of the game's villains who fought against Raiden. However, the meme is used across social media in an ironic way. People caption it with ridiculous statements, and a gif of the character is stroking his chin like he's actually contemplating them.

Metal Gear Rising: Revengeance was launched in 2013 on PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360, and was followed by a PC release in 2014. Currently, the game is also available on Xbox One and Xbox Series X|S.
