Learning to Create Beatboards for Pre-Production in 226 Minutes

In the new course released by The Gnomon Workshop, Riot Games' Storyboard Artist Rembert Montald talks about the art of creating impressive beatboards.

A good beatboard is a skeleton for the entire project, it is the main idea in essence. Just like the name suggests it is a compilation of the juiciest, most crucial parts of the story that are supposed to beat you right in your feels and make you want to follow the plot to learn more. It has to reflect who the main characters are, what the key points of their storylines are, what problems they have to face and how the whole story resolves. Beatboards are a lot like storyboards, except they are a lot more concise and straight-to-the-point so there is not too much room for poor decisions when you make one. Beatboards are used by animators, storyboard artists, and concept designers throughout the pre-production process and beyond.

In this workshop, Rembert Montald shares his complete workflow for creating beatboards that stand out and catch producers' attention. The course consists of 16 lessons which only take a little over 3.5 hours in total. At the beginning of the course, you will learn how to properly review your initial script and references, then you will find out how to work on such important details as establishing the hero shot and skipping ahead, and the final tutorials are dedicated to bringing the story together in Photoshop.

As The Gnomon Workshop suggests, the course is suitable for anyone interested in drawing, filmmaking, or working in pre-production. It will help you develop an understanding of how to create a beatboard that works and that can be a strong start to a successful project.
