Meta Introduces Quest 3 VR Headset, Coming This Fall

The novel headset features higher resolution, a slimmer optic profile, and twice the GPU processing power compared to Quest 2.

Meta has officially unveiled Quest 3, the company's next-generation virtual and mixed reality headset, set to be released in Fall 2023. This headset boasts a significant upgrade in GPU processing power, doubling that of its predecessor, Quest 2, thanks to the inclusion of Qualcomm's cutting-edge next-generation Snapdragon chip.

Users can also expect smoother and faster graphics, higher resolution displays, enhanced optic profile, which has been slimmed down by 40%, enhancing the overall comfort and aesthetic appeal, and novel Touch Plus controllers and TruTouch haptics. Furthermore, Quest 3 maintains compatibility with the extensive catalog of over 500 VR games, apps, and experiences available for Quest 2. According to Meta, the 128GB version of the device will be available this Fall for $499.99, with the company planning to unveil a larger storage option at an undisclosed price.

In addition, Meta stated that beginning June 4, the price of the Quest 2 headset will decrease by $100, making it available at $299.99 for the 128GB variant. The 256GB version will receive a $80 price reduction, now priced at $349.99 instead of the previous $429.99.

"While Quest 3 sets a new standard for mixed reality, immersive gaming, and what a mainstream VR headset can be, Quest 2 remains our most affordable entry point to VR and Pro is optimized for work use cases, with face and eye tracking for more authentic self-expression in meetings," commented the team. "We'll continue to sell Quest 2 and Pro alongside Quest 3, as well as continue shipping new software updates to make the Quest experience even better."
