Meta Launches "Metaverse Academy" in France

Training will start from the new academic year, and the initial goal of the initiative will be to train around 100 students in two new roles in the field of immersive experiences.

According to a recent report by Agence France-Presse (AFP), Meta has teamed up with a French digital training firm Simplon to launch a "metaverse academy" in France in the new academic year.

During the first year of the program, the two companies aim to train for free around 100 students who will be able to choose one of two courses: specialist immersive technology developers and support and assistance technicians, Meta’s vice president for southern Europe Laurent Solly told AFP.

The training will take place in person and, according to Simplon's co-founder and president Frederic Bardeau, will focus on the projects with an emphasis on the 3D world and interactions in virtual universes.

The "metaverse academy" will be held in Paris as well as other French cities including Lyon, Marseille, and Nice. The companies plan to train around 20 students in each city per year.

In October 2021, Meta announced its intention to build the metaverse stating that it plans to create 10,000 jobs in Europe in the coming 5 years. So, this new move comes in line with the company's strategic priorities, aiming to fill job openings in emerging professions.

In a press release, Meta and Simplon claimed that 80% of the careers that will exist in 2030 have not yet appeared, so the new initiative is aimed to develop training schemes now to meet the future demand for professions in the field of web development and the immersive experiences.
