NVIDIA Omniverse Introduces Blender Enhancements and New Generative AI Tools for 3D Artists

New Blender AI add-ons, Ada Lovelace support, and free 3D USD assets are now available to GeForce RTX users.

At CES 2023, NVIDIA introduced a range of changes to its Omniverse platform, which enables the development of metaverse applications. The company announced Blender enhancements and new experimental generative AI tools for 3D artists, as well as Omniverse preinstallation on NVIDIA Studio laptops and new, free USD assets.

Blender alpha release is now available in the Omniverse Launcher and allows users to repair geometry, generate automatic UVs and decimate high-resolution CAD data to more usable polycounts. Users can now easily transfer shape keys and rigged characters. Reattaching a rigged character’s head can now be done in one click from Omniverse Audio2Face – an AI-enabled tool that automatically generates realistic facial expressions from an audio file.

NVIDIA also offers a new panel for scene optimization that lets users create USD scenes within their multi-app 3D workflows in real time.

Additionally, the company's generative AI tools for enabling instant 3D character animation Audio2Face, Audio2Gesture, and Audio2Emotion get performance updates to make it easier for creators to integrate into their 3D pipelines.

RTX users will soon be able to update Canvas – an Ai tool that seamlessly generates landscapes and iterates on them with simple brushstrokes – and enjoy 360 surround images to create panoramic environments.

Moreover, the AI ToyBox of experimental tools is now available in the Omniverse Extension Manager, helping creators generate 3D meshes from 2D inputs.

System builders can preinstall Omniverse Launcher on NVIDIA Studio-validated laptops. The company mentioned that GIGABYTE and AORUS will be the first laptops launching in 2023 with the launcher preinstalled.

What's more, Omniverse users can access "thousands" of new, free USD assets and the release of NVIDIA RTX Remix in early access soon. In case you missed it, Remix is a modding platform to create RTX remasters of classic games. It was used in Portal and then allowed modders to add ray tracing to Half-Life 2, Max Payne, and SWAT 4.
