The Xbox boss spoke about the upcoming Xbox titles noting that there will be more major first-party games in the near future and sharing that he was "excited" with the project Hideo Kojima is developing for Xbox.
While visiting Japan for the Tokyo Game Show 2022, Microsoft Gaming CEO Phil Spencer gave an interview to the Japanese outlet Famitsu where he discussed supplies of Xbox Series X|S, plans for Xbox games releases, and cooperation with Hideo Kojima.
Speaking of the Xbox consoles, Spencer shared that Microsoft is pleased with the demand for its current-gen consoles as well as with customers' feedback on the devices, although he noted that the supply chain of the Xbox Series X turned out to be more challenging than the company initially anticipated.
The Xbox boss also stated that currently, the majority of customers purchase Series S pointing out that it is one of the best devices among home video game consoles that can be bought at a relatively low price. However, he noted that the company will remain focused on both Series S and Series X as "both are necessary for the long-term growth" of Microsoft's hardware business.
When talking about Xbox first-party studios, the Xbox head shared that he thinks "they are doing a great job" developing their games. He admitted that some of the titles had to be delayed due to the difficulties caused by the COVID-19 pandemics, however, he is certain that starting from 2023, the first-party studios will be able to deliver much more major releases.
Spencer also touched upon Xbox's partnership with the renowned Japanese game designer Hideo Kojima that was announced this June. According to the announcement, the new project that Kojima is making for Xbox is going to be a "completely new game one that no one has ever experienced or seen before" and is going to be based on a "never-before-seen concept."
The Xbox head shared that during his time in Japan, he had a chance to visit Kojima Productions and look at the early stages of the development, and, according to him, he was "excited" with what he saw. Spencer also said that Kojima's project is a "fresh idea for a gaming experience" for the Xbox platforms, however, he didn't share any additional details on it.
