Pico 4 and Pico 4 Pro Could Enter Market Soon

The Pro version of the device is said to feature face- and eye-tracking.

Pico, a subsidiary of TikTok parent ByteDance, is seemingly planning to introduce two new versions of its headset.

The information about the devices was revealed in the FCC filings (first spotted by Protocol) which may point to a forthcoming market launch of the headsets.

The new Pico will most likely be called Pico 4 and will be sold in two versions – the "casual" Pico 4 and the "professional" Pico 4 Pro which will have built-in internal cameras featuring face- and eye-tracking. Both headsets are said to be standalone devices and therefore will not require an external source like a console or a PC.

The new devices will be powered by a Qualcomm processor and will be running the Android Q operation system. The headsets are also said to feature Wi-Fi and support third-party gadgets via Bluetooth.

A little is known about Pico 4 and Pico 4 Pro so far, but apparently, the company is pitching it as a direct response to Meta's Quest line of wireless devices. Later this year, Meta is also set to release its high-end VR and AR hybrid headset codenamed "Project Cambria" which is also expected to feature face- and eye-tracking.

Bytedance acquired Pico a little over a year ago and since then it has been trying to compete with Meta in the virtual reality space. In May, Pico released the first VR headset aimed at the Western market, the Pico Neo 3 Link, however, the device is only available in Europe. Apparently, with Pico 4 and Pico 4 Pro, the company is targeting the USA's consumers as well.
