The PlayStation 5 outsold the previously dominant Nintendo Switch in Japan in February, marking the first time that Sony's current console has been the best-selling in its home market.
According to sales data for Japanese games retail between January 30 and February 26 released by Famitsu (via VGC), the PS5 sold a total of 367,000 units over the course of the four-week period. The console's sales were more than 450% higher than those in February last year.
Meanwhile, the Switch (including the standard model as well as Lite and OLED versions), which has held the top-selling position in Japan for several years, sold a total of 221,000 units in February.
Still, Nintendo was the leader in game sales, moving 510,000 boxed units and surpassing Square Enix's 162,000 and Warner Bros Games' 127,000. Kirby: Return To Dream Land DX, which was released in February, sold 189,031 units becoming the top-selling title of the month, accounting for almost 40% of Nintendo's boxed game sales.
