PlayStation VR2 Will Not Be Compatible With PS VR Games

"PS VR2 is designed to deliver a truly next-generation VR experience."

In an interview with the Official PlayStation Podcast, Sony confirmed that PlayStation VR2 isn't compatible with PS VR games as it's meant for a "next-generation experience."

"PlayStation VR games are not compatible with PlayStation VR2 because PlayStation VR2 is designed to be a truly next-generation virtual reality experience," said Hideaki Nishino, senior vice president of platform experience at PlayStation.

Sony believes PS VR2's "much more advanced features", like the controller with haptic feedback and adaptive triggers, eye tracking, 3D audio, and 4K HDR, require "a whole different approach" to making games than the original PlayStation VR.

"These features actually enable developers to create worlds that feel more vivid and alive and bring players closer to the gameplay experience than ever."

Earlier, Sony revealed that it should be easier to port games on PlayStation VR2, so it all might not be so bad after all. Also, the headset will allegedly have over 20 "major" titles at launch, so players shouldn't experience a shortage of games.

PlayStation VR2 is expected to be released in early 2023. Check out the podcast here and don't forget to join our Reddit page and our Telegram channel, follow us on Instagram and Twitter, where we share breakdowns, the latest news, awesome artworks, and more.
