Recreating 3D Scans Procedurally

Daniel Thiger decided to recreate scanned beach pebbles in Substance Designer, and the results are gorgeous.

What is the best way to create a photorealistic surface in 3D? You might mention photogrammetry, of course, but sometimes all you need are Substance Designer and a set of necessary skills. In fact, such Substance experiments can give results that are as good as scans. Don’t believe us? Ask the amazing Daniel Thiger. The artist decided to recreate scanned beach pebbles in Substance Designer, and the results are gorgeous! 

As most of you already know, I’m fascinated with 3D scans and enjoy challenging myself to match their quality using Substance Designer.
