Simulating Snow and Sand: thinkingParticles 7 for 3ds Max Available

Cebas Visual Technology announced the release of the new version of its toolkit for creating advanced visual effects procedurally in 3ds Max.

The latest version of thinkingParticles Release 7.0 brings bug fixes, workflow enhancements, and new features, including a brand new state-of-the-art MPM Solver.

MPM offers a grid-based system that accelerates the physically accurate simulation of real-world material properties. It is a new 100% procedural approach in simulating continuum body dynamics right from within thinkingParticles. "Specifically, MPM allows you to simulate highly deformable objects with great stability and a low amount of simulation artifacts," states the team. "Multiple new operator nodes offer a 100% procedural control of any Material Point Method effects in thinkingParticles." In its first release, MPM supports sand and snow.

The new version also introduces Cellular, "a powerful new node to procedurally generate volumetric 3D patterns and group them in individual cells." You can now use the Voronoi function to procedurally create your own 3D patterns while preserving the creative control.
