BioWare is busy with Dragon Age and Mass Effect.
Star Wars: The Old Republic was released in 2011 and has been supported by its developer BioWare all this time. However, this period has come to an end as EA is moving the game to third-party studio Broadsword Online Games, the creator of Ultima Online and Dark Age of Camelot.
As reported by IGN, the deal should be finalized this month. Fans don't have to worry: The Old Republic will be in good hands as Broadsword is led by Mythic Entertainment co-founder and former BioWare VP Rob Denton, who has worked on the game back in the day.
EA has released a statement addressing the news:
“Almost 12 years after launch, Star Wars: The Old Republic remains a success and continues to grow its dedicated and passionate community. We’re so proud of the work the team has done, and the future of the game and the community continues to be very bright. We’re evaluating how we give the game and the team the best opportunity to grow and evolve, which includes conversations with Broadsword, a boutique studio that specializes in delivering online, community-driven experiences. Our goal is to do what is best for the game and its players.”
The Old Republic will continue as usual, while BioWare will focus on Dragon Age and Mass Effect.
