Substance 3D Sampler 3.3 Released

The update comes with tons of new tools and features that should help you to create and edit materials and environment lights more easily.

Adobe has released Substance 3D Sampler 3.3, a new and improved version of their picture-to-3D material tool, previously known as Substance Alchemist. The update brings a series of new tools, content, and features that should simplify the process of creating and editing materials and environment lights.

The update's highlight is the new Content-Aware Fill feature that can be used to remove unwanted details in a picture. The tool is based on the same tool in Adobe Photoshop and allows you to clean PBR materials and environment lights. On PBR materials, Content-Aware Fill is applied across all channels.

Another great feature that the update brings to the table is Spherical Projection, a neat feature that allows you to display an environment as a sphere, making it easier to edit with tools like Nadir Patch, Content-Aware Fill, and all procedural lights with no distortion.

The update also introduces more convenient interoperability with Substance 3D Stager. It is now possible to send your materials to Stager in one click, without the need to publish your materials and load them into Stager as individual files.

And here is the list of some of the minor features:

  • Exposure slider: In the 2D view, you can temporarily modify the exposure to help you better see details or objects on underexposed or overexposed parts of the environment you are editing.
  • Dedicated viewer settings: The viewer settings are persistent per type of asset (material or environment light).
  • Clone Stamp: With this Clone Stamp update, you can paint multiple stamp strokes with various sources in a single layer and access the stamp history in the layer stack.
  • Crop and Transform: This update introduces new shortcuts for the Crop and Transform widgets manipulation.
  • Preserve tiling: Image to Material can now preserve the tiling of your tileable image reducing the time to tile the material after.
