Tears of the Kingdom-Style Building System Made in UE5

The project was created by Ev Schwab.

Over the past few days, Game Developer and Technical Artist Ev Schwab shared a series of impressive demos, showcasing a cool building mechanic, inspired by a similar system present in The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom. Set up with Unreal Engine 5 and the engine's physics system Chaos, the mechanic enables one to create various structures and even vehicles by connecting meshes together via physics constraints and snapping them using a set of sockets placed on the static mesh. According to the author, the mechanic is extremely robust and can be used consistently for creating complex constructions without instability.

Additionally, Ev wrote a comprehensive post on Reddit, providing an in-depth explanation of how the mechanic's snapping element works.
