Azur Games has released a new report providing some insights into the hyper-casual games market.

The report shows that the number of new hyper-casual releases has grown by more than 5 times compared to 2021 and according to the publisher, it will keep growing. Meanwhile, the total number of game downloads has grown from 10 billion in 2021 to 13 billion to date which means that the competition has grown significantly and is far outpacing the growth of the hyper-casual market.

Only 12.3% of hyper-casual games in the top 300 were released in 2022. Most of the games (47.7%) have been on the market since 2021. So, as Azur noted, in addition to new projects, companies that release hyper-casual games, also have to compete with the titles that have kept the audience for years.

In terms of genres, idle games which were on the rise for the past couple of years continued to grow in revenue and downloads in 2022 and puzzle games became trending this year.

Meanwhile, runners – the genre that was once massively popular – is gradually losing its popularity. Azur noted that runner games' downloads are still high, however, the mass trend is going down.

Azur Games that amid the current situation, hyper-casual developers should focus on increasing the expertise and product quality of their projects if they want to stay in the market.
