Tutorial: Remastering Digital Clothes With Maya, ZBrush & Marvelous Designer

Arno Schmitz released an in-depth tutorial explaining how to remaster nine-year-old digital fabric.

Lead Character Artist at Guerrilla Games Arno Schmitz, who, aside from creating beautiful 3D models for Guerilla's games, is well-known for making ultra-realistic characters, has recently shared a comprehensive tutorial on remastering nine-year-old digital fabric using Maya, ZBrush, and Marvelous Designer.

For context, back in 2013, Arno unveiled Cleric, a full-body 3D character model and one of the first projects demonstrated by the artist. For the past five months, the creator has been hard at work remastering the nine-year-old project and giving the character drastically upgraded looks while staying true to the original idea. After recreating the character's face and body, the artist started working on her clothes and, luckily for us, shared the entire working process in an easy-to-understand tutorial format.

In this tutorial, Arno thoroughly explained how the character's outfit was remastered with modern 3D software, showed how the semi-transparent white fabric was made, and shared some useful techniques for you to implement into your workflow. You can check out the tutorial attached above or by visiting Arno's ArtStation page.

And here are some upgraded Cleric renders shared by the artist:
