Tutorial: Scanning Yourself for Mesh to MetaHuman in RealityCapture

Capturing Reality shows how to transfer yourself to MetaHuman.

Capturing Reality has released a new tutorial showing how to scan your own face to create a mesh for MetaHuman using RealityCapture.

There are four parts to the video:

  • the process of scanning
  • processing in RealityCapture
  • importing to Unreal Engine 5
  • creating your avatar with the MetaHuman plug-in

Capturing Reality also gives helpful advice to help you make the best model possible, saying you should try to keep your expression neutral and avoid scanning hair as it can be made in MetaHuman later.

And the result is truly impressive: the MetaHuman model looks really similar to the original image.

RealityCapture is a photogrammetry solution allowing you to create realistic 3D assets from photos. You can try it out yourself on the website.
