Valve To Review The Entire Catalog for Steam Deck Compatibility

They must have a huge team for this task.

Valve shared details on how they plan to prepare a library of games for Steam Deck as the release date is getting closer. The company is going to review the entire Steam catalog to create a new compatibility rating system.

According to Valve's latest video, all games on Steam will be divided into four categories – Verified, Playable, Unsupported, and Unknown. Verified games (a tick in a green circle) will work great with Steam Deck out of the box. Verified games are said to support the Steam Deck's default resolution (1280x800 or 1280x720), have "good default settings", and legible text. These games will also have full controller support, use appropriate input icons, and automatically turn on the on-screen keyboard.

As for other categories, Playable games "may require some manual tweaking" to play. Unsupported games are currently not functional on Steam Deck – VR titles, for example, plus there are Unknown games that have not yet been tested for compatibility.

"We've already started reviewing titles and will continue to check games through launch and beyond," states the compatibility page. "This is an ongoing evaluation of the entire catalog and a game's rating can change over time - titles will be re-reviewed as the developer releases updates or the Deck's software improves."

The new handheld console will start shipping this December in certain territories and then visit more areas in 2022. Don't forget to join our new Reddit pageour new Telegram channel, follow us on Instagram and Twitter, where we are sharing breakdowns, the latest news, awesome artworks, and more.
