The developers of Horizon Zero Dawn from Guerrilla Games talked about the challenges of working on an open-world action-RPG title. They described their work on different areas of the video game and how they will influence the gameplay.
Guerrilla Games’ managing director Hermen Hulst stated that the studio is primarily known for the Killzone franchise and has no experience when it comes to open-world RPGs. Most of the studio employees saw Horizon Zero Dawn as a challenge and an opportunity to create something fresh and news.
According to art director Jan-Bart Van Beek, the video game will feature many different zones. There are going to be machines which behave and differently in each of the environments. The action-RPG will allow players to visit forests, jungles, deserts and snowy mountain peaks. Horizon Zero Dawn will also feature ancient ruins with a unique atmosphere.
The action- RPG is going to feature a day-night cycle along with a weather system. They will influence visibility, make certain elements harder or easier. Jan-Bart Van Beek said that the transition from Killzone to Horizon Zero Dawn from both artistic and technical points of view.
Horizon Zero Dawn will hit North American stores at the end of February, 2017. European gamers will get to play the project in early March, 2017.
