Fab Post-Launch Update & Quixel Content Roadmap Reveal

Learn more about upcoming features, known issues, and more.

Last week, Epic Games hosted a live stream where the Fab team discussed the recent launch of the new united marketplace, showcased the product roadmap, and answered some questions. The stream also included a sneak peek at the Quixel content roadmap and an update on Bridge from the Quixel team.

Previously, Epic acknowledged the popular issues with Fab and provided documented solutions and updates to resolve them. Based on user feedback, the team is said to be actively working to address many of the raised concerns and has made the Fab roadmap publicly available for transparency.

The work is divided into two segments, with the first primarily focusing on UX and discoverability, as well as anything related to the website or the Unreal Engine plug-in. This includes improvements to search and discovery, wishlists, text reviews, better seller tools, and more. Here's a selection of what's included in the roadmap:

  • Search: Improvements to the relevancy of search results, rankings, and the introduction of search suggestions;
  • Nav Tree and Discover: Context-dependent nav tree for better navigation alongside improved product cards and grid;
  • Filters: New filters, such as filter by creator(s), style, or tag, alongside improved placement of the filters;
  • Sorting & Collections: Ability to group assets into collections and more sorting options;
  • Download & Fab Integrations: Various quality-of-life UX improvements, as well as support for drag-and-drop from My Library;
  • Product Pages: Video player, higher resolution screenshots, product comments, FAQs, wishlists, and text reviews for verified purchasers;
  • Seller Tools: Sitewide sales, the ability to offer discounts, seller reports, and more.

The second segment of work, which will take a bit longer to address, focuses on asset workflows. This includes features such as selective downloads, batch operations, asset management, and seamless export/import into your engine or preferred DCC tools.

While we wait for longer-term improvements, the Quixel team reactivated the ability to acquire legacy Megascans in Bridge and on Quixel.com until December 31st, with a new one-click solution to claim the entire library on the way. The legacy library of over 18,000 assets includes everything that you know and love from Quixel prior to Fab's launch: there's nothing new, nothing has been removed, and nothing is being updated. You can use anything you claim from now until December 31st, 2024, and continue to use after January 1st, 2025.

Epic Games also plans to launch a Fab desktop application in 2025, offering equivalent workflow features to Bridge today and suitable for all Fab content, not just Megascans. Once this alternative is released, Bridge and Quixel.com will be discontinued. Details are still being finalized, and more information will be shared on the Fab roadmap once available.
