Foundry Launched Nuke 16.0

This release introduces variable-enabled multishot workflows, new nodes, updates to USD-based 3D compositing and BlinkScript, and more.

After its open beta launch in December last year, Foundry's Nuke 16.0 is now officially available. This release enables you to upgrade and work across multiple shots simultaneously, enjoy enhanced large-scale roto performance, speed up shot reviews, approval, and delivery, and much more.

The main highlight of this release is a native, variable-enabled workflow designed for efficient, reliable, and scalable multishot compositing.  This makes applying the same changes to similar shots simple and intuitive, allowing you to focus more on the creative aspects of compositing. Check out the video on this topic:

As part of this feature, Graph Scope Variables allow you to create a "context" that applies to multiple shots. You can apply a single script to multiple shots or entire sequences within a variable. With the VariableSwitch node inside the new Variables Panel, you can set up "split and join" workflows based on the variables configured for your multishot workflow, giving you the control you need when compositing multiple shots at once.

Nuke 16.0 enhances flexibility with Linked Nodes, allowing simultaneous changes or per-knob overrides without clones, and enables editing Groups and LiveGroups within the same Node Graph. Additionally, Roto's performance has been significantly improved, focusing on caching, playback, interactivity, and motion blur to streamline workflows.

Creating custom effects is now easier than ever, whether you're an experienced BlinkScript user or just starting out. The latest update enhances the process with formatting changes, improved error handling, new keyboard shortcuts, and other features, making it easier to read, write, learn, and troubleshoot your BlinkScripts efficiently.

Nuke 16.0 also brings several updates to the beta of its intuitive USD-based 3D system, native to Nuke, moving it closer to its full release. Key updates include core node improvements, the addition of a new GeoXformPrim node, a new GeoConstrain node, and ScanlineRender2 with enhanced sampling, motion blur, and render outputs.
