On November 8, 2023, Nintendo published an official post where the company announced the production of a live-action Legend of Zelda movie. After years of anticipation and recent rumors, the company has finally confirmed the development of the movie, although without providing any further details.
The movie will be produced by Shigeru Miyamoto from Nintendo and Avi Arad, the Chairman of Arad Productions and the former Founder and CEO of Marvel Studios. Arad has an impressive track record as a producer, having been involved in the success of various movies, including Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse, Into the Spider-Verse, No Way Home, Far From Home, and Homecoming. He is also currently working on upcoming projects, such as Kraven the Hunter and the Borderlands movie.
Wes Ball, well-known for directing The Maze Runner and the upcoming Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes, has been chosen as the Director for the live-action Legend of Zelda movie. Sony Pictures Entertainment will be responsible for theatrical distribution and co-finance the film alongside Nintendo.
As for now, Nintendo has not yet disclosed the casting choices for the lead roles in the movie. It appears that the project is still in the initial stages of production, even though a recent tweet shared by Miyamoto indicates that the movie has been in progress, in some capacity, for "many years now."
Here is more news on Nintendo, recently the company published a financial report where the combined sales of all iterations of the Switch surpassed a remarkable milestone of 130 million units. Also, the report shared that The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom sold nearly 20 million copies.
