PlayStation Legend Shuhei Yoshida Becomes a Voice Actor in Promise Mascot Agency

His retirement life begins with a new try in an indie game.

PlayStation legend Shuhei Yoshida’s retirement life starts with his new role. He has announced his first video game voice role in an upcoming open-world crime game titled Promise Mascot Agency, created by Paradise Killer developer Kaizen Game Works Limited.

The Voice Cast Announcement trailer revealed by IGN shows that the legendary developer plays the voice of Monouge, “an odd-looking green-skinned former mascot who is opening their own game center.”

Shuhei Yoshida was one of the first members of the Sony PlayStation project and just retired from the company yesterday after working for the company for 31 years. He became Vice President of Sony Computer Entertainment America in April 2000 and took charge of Sony's Independent Developer Initiative in 2019.

Yoshida's leadership and commitment to fostering new talent in the gaming industry have earned him widespread recognition and respect. In 2023, he was given the prestigious BAFTA Fellowship award at the BAFTA Game Awards to honor his great contributions to the industry, especially to indie games.

The game that Yoshida is involved in, Promise Mascot Agency, is an open-world narrative adventure mascot management simulator that invites players to explore a cursed Japanese town and recruit mascot friends.

Besides Shuhei Yoshida, Promise Mascot Agency's voice cast also features Takaya Kuroda, who is known for voicing Kazuma Kiryu in the Yakuza series, and Ayano Shibuya, the actor of Purah in Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom. It is scheduled for release in 2025 on PC and consoles, including PS5, Xbox Series X/S, and Nintendo Switch.
