Sony offers compensation to players but doesn't share the real cause or how it could be avoided in the future.
After a lengthy week, when PlayStation players wanted to enjoy a perfect gaming night, only to find that the service was down. And even worse, it was broken for nearly a day before it finally got restored.
The PlayStation Network outage caused all related services to be disabled, and players were unable to access online gaming, streaming services, and the PlayStation Store.
The Ask PlayStation support account posted that Sony offers five free days for all PlayStation Plus members as compensation for the outage, which started around 6 pm EST last Friday. It said that the outage was caused by a generally worded “operational issue” without offering further explanation or details.
Players’ anger and frustration spread all over on social media, with one player named Ramos saying: “PSN down on a friday night is criminal”. Besides affecting published titles like Fortnite, Marvel Rivals, and Call of Duty, it also deeply affected Monster Hunter Wilds, which is going through its second open beta test to get ready for its official release scheduled at the end of the month. As a result, developers have considered “running OBT2 for an additional 24 hours at a future date.”
This outage might not be that frustrating compared with the 23-day downtime that occurred when the PlayStation Network was hacked in 2011, but still, this unexpected wave in the calm waters of online gaming still concerns players. The possibility of similar issues happening in the future has caused growing frustration and concern, especially since Sony has not shared any specific plans on how they will prevent this from occurring again.
