RealityCapture 1.2 Tarasque from Epic Games is Officially Out

Epic Games released the latest version of its photogrammetry software that allows you to create virtual reality scenes, orthographic projections, 2D and 3D maps from scans and images automatically.

RealityCapture 1.2 Tarasque can now calculate volume and area for arbitrary shapes, compute and export contour lines, and allow the users to make custom height profiles. The new tool also features more than 2 times faster calculation of depth maps. There are also a few UI adjustments including export and sharing options available in the main menu, a one-export dialog that combines all export options RealityCapture supports, and more.

The latest version also allows you to create and export cross-sections of the models as well as freeze simplification of the model edges. Smaller improvements like the ability to deselect items with a right mouse click and enabling slope shading on DTM and DSM have been added. There is also a whole new list of CLI commands featured in the latest update (such as exportCrossSections, importShapesToOrtho, computeContours, and others).

Epic Games also fixed a significant number of bugs, errors, and all sorts of crashes the users were experiencing when working in RealityCapture. For instance, LOD models export and Cesium Ion upload crashes have been fixed, incorrectly exported depths and masks have been sorted out, vertex color artifacts after simplification have been eliminated. The developers warn, however, that "projects created and/or saved in this version cannot be opened in the previous versions of RealityCapture."

The cost of the Perpetual Enterprise license is now $3,750 which means you get an unlimited license. There are also Pay-Per-Input Licenses where you pay for credits to process scan data, and those start at $10 for 3,500 credits.
