Test Godot 3.6 Release Candidate Before Its Official Launch

The upcoming Godot 3.6 is now considered feature complete and the developers invite users to try the Release Candidate to help catch any remaining bugs.

While most of the engine development focus is on Godot 4.3, some dedicated contributors allocate time to finalizing 3.6 for many users who still have games in production using Godot 3. The launch of Godot 3.6 is drawing closer with a new Release Candidate, which still requires finishing touches before it's available to everyone.

Over the past weeks, Godot 3.6 received a lot of bug fixes and improvements thanks to all the testers and developers who reported and fixed issues. The developers invite more users to test this release and potential follow-up RCs on as many projects as possible, to uncover non-obvious regressions that might have gone unnoticed until now and report any problems.

Brief Godot 3.6 highlights:

  • 2D physics interpolation
  • 2D hierarchical culling
  • Tighter shadow culling
  • Discrete Level of Detail (LOD)
  • Mesh merging
  • ORM materials
  • Vertex cache optimization
  • View selected mesh stats
  • SceneTree dock's filter improvements
  • Android dependencies update matching API level 34
  • Lots of bug fixes, significantly improving stability

Kamaeru: A Frog Refuge

  • Fix merge_meshes() functionality
  • Fix pausing behavior with physics interpolation
  • Fix 2D skinning with physics interpolation
  • Fix viewport behavior with physics interpolation
  • Fix text to speech loaded too early
  • Fix physics tick counter

If you encounter any issues while testing this release, please report them as bugs on GitHub. Before submitting, search for existing issues using relevant keywords to avoid duplicate reports. The developers are particularly interested in any changes that cause regressions in your projects, for example, if something that worked in previous 3.x releases is now broken.
