A Glimpse at Level Design in The Last of Us Part II

Anthony Vaccaro contributed to #Blocktober 2023 by showing how one of the most memorable scenes from TLoU Part 2 looked early in development.

Principal Environment Artist at Naughty Dog Anthony Vaccaro, who worked on the studio's The Last of Us and Uncharted franchises, has participated in this year's #Blocktober, an unofficial annual event dedicated to level design, by showing how one of the most memorable scenes from The Last of Us Part II looked early in development.

In a recent Twitter post, the artist showed how the main hall of the Seattle Waterfront Aquarium, the one with gigantic flying whales, looked during the blockout phase, comparing the early blockout to the final version as seen in the game. According to Anthony, he was responsible for layout design and 3D art, with Principal Environment Texture Artist Jared Sobotta assisting with textures and materials.
