According to German market research company GfK, overall console sales in top markets saw an increase in 2023. This growth was largely driven by the high demand for the PS5, which was partly due to the console not being widely available in 2022. The Nintendo Switch also experienced impressive sales, even though the console is nearing its seventh year. However, this increase in demand was primarily localized in Japan and other export countries, with sales declining in the US and Europe.

On the other hand, Xbox faced challenges in 2023, with console sales declining in most major markets. GfK data revealed that the PS5 accounted for a significant portion of console sales in the UK, with 43% from November 2022 to October 2023, and 51% from May to October 2023. This surge in demand for the PS5 can be attributed to aggressive promotions in July and August, as well as the release of the EA Sports FC 24 bundle.

In terms of market share, the Xbox Series X|S saw a decline from 26% to 23% in the UK over the past 12 months, while the Nintendo Switch dropped from 34% to 25%. Industry analysts highlight the significance of the upcoming Black Friday sale for all console manufacturers. This will be the first time that Microsoft, Sony, and Nintendo consoles will not face supply shortages.

Experts believe Sony is well-prepared for the sale, having introduced the compact PS5 and offering bundles with popular games like Call of Duty: Modern Warfare III and Marvel's Spider-Man 2. However, insiders suggest that Microsoft is also planning substantial discounts on its consoles.

Some more news, recently, YouTubers shared in-depth teardowns of the new console, PS5 Slim, showcasing its slimmer profile and the updated outer cover, which now features a combination of matte and gloss finishes. Also, Sony's financial results for the fiscal year ending September 30, 2023, revealed that PlayStation 5 has been shipped to a worldwide total of 46.6 million units.
