Autodesk Publishes Its 2023 State of Design & Make Report

Surveying more than 2,500 executives and business leaders, the report provides an overview of today's workforce, digital transformation, and sustainability in business.

Autodesk has published its 2023 State of Design & Make report, the company's first-annual 55-page report that uncovers key findings about today’s workforce, digital transformation, and sustainability in business.

Compiled by surveying more than 2,500 business leaders and experts in the industries that comprise the Design & Make category, including architecture, engineering, construction and operations, product design and manufacturing, and media and entertainment, the report provides some informative insights on how to attract and retain talent, manage costs, and respond to the volatile global economy and global events.

Here are some of the report's most notable findings:

  • More than half of respondents said their companies have hired employees who lack key skills but plan to train them.
  • Digitally mature companies are outperforming less digitally mature companies, and the performance gap has widened since the start of 2020.
  • Nearly 95% of respondents said they expect their industry or organization to make sustainability-focused changes in the coming years.
  • 79% of respondents say future growth depends on digital tools.
  • 2 out of 3 companies are struggling to find skilled workers.

"Autodesk has uncovered universal challenges and opportunities among industries that design and make the world around us," commented Autodesk President and CEO Andrew Anagnost. "Across the globe, businesses large and small have made major operational changes over the last three years to stay resilient and relevant. Notably, those businesses which have embraced digitization and data to drive decision making find themselves better positioned to thrive – even against the backdrop of continued global economic uncertainty and turmoil."
