Chaos Released Corona 9 for 3ds Max & Cinema 4D

The new version introduces procedural clouds, Corona Pattern, edge trimming, and more.

Chaos Czech launches Corona 9 for 3ds Max and Cinema 4D. Following the sneak peek released in September, the latest version of the renderer offers procedural clouds, Corona Pattern, and edge trimming. It also raised the prices while introducing Chaos Scans, Player, and Phoenix to the Premium plan.

The new procedural clouds system allows adding clouds to the sky, controlling their number, shape, and position, and animating them. This works with the existing sun and sky: clouds realistically react to different times of the day.

The new Corona Pattern – what is essentially V-Ray Enmesh – allows tiling geometry across surfaces, which is useful for creating patterns. The feature uses the RAM for the source geometry that you're cloning, so it's pretty easy on the memory.

Corona now also supports edge trimming, which gives you control over the edges of your scatters. It can be used for lawns, for example, to stop the plants from leaving the scattering area.

Other improvements include the fish eye camera's support of depth-of-field, preserve options for a slicer, opacity, and bump for better usability of material overrides, and reduced amount of texture memory required when using out-of-core texture rendering.

Finally, Chaos Scans, Player, and Phoenix are now included in the Premium plan. Phoenix will let you create realistic simulations of fire, smoke, and water; Chaos Scans will give you access to realistic materials; Chaos Player will give you the ability to edit and post-process your image sequences.

With these extra services, Corona Premium subscriptions now cost $67.90/month or $478.80/year. Corona Solo subscriptions are $53.90/month or $358.80/year.
