Creative Assembly Opens a New Office in Newcastle

The new studio will be headed by Giselle Stewart, a game industry veteran who spent over 20 years leading Ubisoft's Reflections studio.

Creative Assembly, the developer best known for the Total War series which has also worked on such IPs as Alien, Warhammer, and Halo, has announced the opening of a new studio in Newcastle, UK. The new office will be joining the developer's two existing locations in Sussex, UK and Sofia, Bulgaria.

Titled Creative Assembly North, the new studio is set to work on an announced project, which is currently in the early prototyping stage, in collaboration with the Sussex team. In the upcoming years, CA North plans to hire approximately 100 developers for technical and creative positions, the studio said.

Giselle Stewart, an industry veteran with over 26 years of experience, has been appointed as Studio Director at Creative Assembly's new studio. In addition to her new role, she continues to serve as a Visiting Professor of Practice at Newcastle University.

Stewart spent almost 20 years as the head of Ubisoft's Reflections studio and was later appointed as the Director of UK Corporate Affairs at Ubisoft. She has also served on the boards of TIGA, the Creative Industries Federation, and Ukie.

"Starting a new development studio from scratch with the full support and insights of one of the UK’s oldest and largest studios is incredibly exciting. We are embracing flexibility, fast iteration, and creation, while fostering cross-location collaboration," Stewart commented.

"Creative Assembly North establishes us in one of biggest cities for gaming in the UK. Alongside bringing more incredible talent onto our projects, the establishment of a new continuous improvement team will see sustained benefits across all our teams for many years to come, contributing to a continually improving development experience for our people," Creative Assembly Studio Director Gareth Edmondson said.
