Foundry Acquires Peregrine Labs' Bokeh Plug-in for Nuke

Peregrine will maintain support for Nuke 13.2 and earlier releases until December 31, 2023.

Foundry has acquired Peregrine Labs' Bokeh – a Nuke plug-in for producing out-of-focus effects. It can also simulate real-world lenses, "enabling artists to achieve highly cinematic depth-of-field effects." As Foundry stated, "Bokeh is the only commercially available tool for defocus of deep data and has become an essential tool for artists using deep compositing in Nuke."

The tool will be integrated into upcoming Nuke releases across a range of products, including Nuke Indie and Nuke Non-Commerical, from early 2023, starting with Nuke 13.2v6 and Nuke 14.0v2. Peregrine will support Nuke 13.2 and earlier releases until the end of 2023.

Any users with an active Bokeh license, or one that has expired after November 1, 2022, can get a complimentary extension until December 31st, 2023.

There are several products in the Nuke family, you can find the price for each on the website. Read the announcement here and don't forget to join our Reddit page and our Telegram channel, follow us on Instagram and Twitter, where we share breakdowns, the latest news, awesome artworks, and more.

That's actually great news! Bokeh is such an effective tool for adding subtle realism to your shots. It's fun to think about that there is bokeh everywhere. Even when your image is "in focus".

Using custom bokeh maps, even if just for the slightest effect, truly improves photo-realism tremendously.
