NetEase Establishes Another New Studio, PinCool

The studio is headed by a key Dragon Quest producer Ryutaro Ichimura.

NetEase has recently unveiled its latest addition to its growing portfolio of studios – a Tokyo-based game developer named PinCool.

The studio is headed by Ryutaro Ichimura, who serves as its president and representative director. Ichimura joined Enix in 2000, prior to its merger with Square in 2003, and took on the role of chief producer for the Dragon Quest series. He was the lead producer for Dragon Quest VIII and Dragon Quest IX and has also been involved in producing the Dragon Quest anime series, as well as organizing live events and exhibitions related to the franchise.

On the studio's website, Ichimura mentioned that the name PinCool is derived from the Japanese phrase 'pin to kuru,' which defines the moment when an idea clicks.

PinCool says it aims to "provide high-quality entertainment experiences to users worldwide." According to the studio, it will primarily focus on developing games for consoles, however, its plans also involve planning and producing different other types of entertainment, such as mobile games, arcade games, manga, anime, film, toys, theater, and events.

"We offer something you won’t find anywhere else. We aim to deliver fun experiences to people across the globe through projects that take advantage of the kind of new ideas that come from untethered creative freedom," Ichimura said.

In recent years, NetEase has been actively and ambitiously expanding its portfolio of studios on a global scale. Earlier this month, the Chinese giant announced the formation of a new Canadian studio, Bad Brain Game Studios.

Other studios that have recently joined NetEase's lineup include SkyBox Labs,  AnchorPoint StudiosSplicedJar of Sparks, and the recently rebranded Jackalyptic Games (formerly known as Jackalope Games).
