Quad Maker: New Maya-Inspired Retopology Tool For Blender

Drawing inspiration from Maya's Quad Draw, Quad Maker provides Blender users with a faster retopology workflow while maintaining the flexibility of native tools.

A few months ago, Mark Kingsnorth announced the testing phase of Quad Maker, a new tool designed to help 3D modelers efficiently retopologize objects into clean, quad-based geometry with a set of simple Blender mesh operations. The tool is now officially released, complete with documentation and a video overview of its key features, which you can check out below.

Quad Maker focuses on simplicity and speed, prioritizing basic retopology functions within a unified, hotkey-driven workspace. While it may not be as feature-packed as other retopology tools, it aims for seamless integration with Blender's native mesh editing features.

Here are the key Quad Maker operations:

  • Add Vertices: quickly add point vertices;
  • Fill Quads: fill the point vertices and surrounding geometry with quads;
  • Extend Borders: extrude border edges and vertices either in single, loop, or edge rings;
  • Quick Cut: quickly use the simple loop cut and slide operation with single clicks;
  • Draw Quad Strip: quickly draw out strips of quads on a target surface;
  • Smooth Vertices: smooth out vertices in edit mode;
  • Delete Mode: quickly delete vertices, edges, and faces and dissolve interior edges in a single click/drag operation.

Please note that this add-on is compatible with Blender 4.2 and above. It is designed to work effectively for retopologizing high-poly meshes but may not be suitable for editing those high-poly meshes. Additionally, busy scenes with many objects may cause the add-on to slow down.
