Reports on Stadia: Closing Internal Studios and Cancelling Projects

New reports on Stadia revealed internal issues which led to closing 2 internal game studios and canceling projects.

Reports on Stadia revealed serious internal issues in Google regarding the streaming platform Stadia.

On February 1, 2021, Phill Harrison, Stadia’s general manager, announced that Google will shut down its two game development studios based in LA and Montreal.  The shutting down of the studios leads to canceling Stadia’s own projects which also affects over 100 developers. It also turns Stadia into a streaming platform with third-party games only.

Stadia was launched in 2019 and missed features mentioned in the pre-release promotional campaigns, including Stadia’s own games.

Wired did an investigation, starting from the very beginning when Stadia was announced during GDC 2019. The article covers up all the actions made by Google from the first prototype of the platform as well as includes commentary from anonymous sources regarding the Google experience in game development.

Bloomberg also revealed that Stadia didn’t achieve the expected controller sales and eventually gave them for free. Find out more details on Stadia’s state on the Wired and Bloomberg websites.

"The article covers up all the actions made by Google ...". Dubious wording there.
